Texas Sprinter van rental rates — self-drive

Daily rates only. Same national Checkmate rate card, delivered through the Dallas partner fleet.

Self-drive Sprinter van rental for a Texas trip starts at $450/day for an Executive Sprinter on a 3-day minimum booking, or $500/day on a 1-2 day rental. No hourly rates, no surge, no surprise cleaning fees beyond the policy on your rental agreement. Every van in the Dallas partner fleet is a 2022-2026 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter picked up in Addison, Texas — 15 miles from downtown Dallas — then driven on your Texas itinerary.

We publish two rate tables because the math changes at the 3-day mark. Most Dallas-area weekends — Cowboys home games, Rangers series, Mavericks/Stars playoff nights, The Star in Frisco corporate runs, Fort Worth Stockyards weekends — land inside the 3-day-minimum tier, which is our best rate and what you should budget against. Longer runs out to Austin, Houston, and Hill Country wine country are priced with expanded mileage.

Self-Drive Comparison

Self-drive Sprinter vs Turo, Outdoorsy, RVShare, and national chains in TX

Self-drive Sprinter rental is a different market from chauffeured group transportation — the right competitive set is Turo and Outdoorsy owner-listed Sprinters, RVShare, and national chains like Enterprise Exotics or Budget. Uber XL, party buses, and traditional limos are not comparable because none of them are self-drive. Here is the honest side-by-side for a Dallas-pickup Texas rental.

Per-passenger math — 12-pax Texas group, 3-day Executive Sprinter rental

  • Checkmate self-drive (Dallas partner): $450-$800/day × 3 days = $1,350-$2,400 total / $38-$67 per passenger per day
  • 3× Turo SUVs (4 pax each) at ~$200/day × 3 days = $1,800 / $50 per passenger per day — but the group is split across three vehicles, not one van, and you lose the one-van Cowboys / Austin / Hill Country convoy
  • Outdoorsy Sprinter at ~$300/day × 3 days = $900 + owner-set mileage + $200 cleaning — one van but typically 2-4 berth, not 12 passengers
  • National chain 15-pax van (non-Sprinter) at ~$150/day × 3 days = $450 — cheapest on paper, no luxury amenities, no Mercedes-Benz chassis

The honest read: if your Texas group is 9 or more and you want one van (not three) with a Mercedes-Benz chassis, professionally maintained, and from a dedicated operator, Checkmate Dallas is the only option in that exact category once the fleet launches in May 2026. If your group is 2-6 and you are fine with a stranger's vehicle, Turo is cheaper. If you need a full RV with a bed and kitchen for a Big Bend or Guadalupe River overnight, RVShare makes more sense than our Camper tier.

Addison TX Pickup

Picking up your Sprinter in Addison, Texas

Every Checkmate Sprinters Texas self-drive rental will be picked up in Addison, Texas — the Dallas partner's dedicated facility in North Dallas. The exact pickup address is shared with confirmed reservations. At pickup the partner runs a full walkthrough of the van — controls, amenities, damage inspection, WiFi and entertainment systems — hands you the keys and a fuel receipt, and confirms the agreed-on return time and mileage allowance. Budget 20-30 minutes for pickup on a first rental.

The Addison facility sits just off the Dallas North Tollway and connects to I-635 (LBJ Freeway), Route 75 (Central Expressway), the PGBT, and Dallas North Tollway — giving direct access to downtown Dallas, DFW International, Dallas Love Field, The Star in Frisco, Legacy West in Plano, and AT&T Stadium / Globe Life Field in Arlington. Austin, Houston, and San Antonio are all 3-4 hour drives on I-35 and I-45.

Most groups flying in land at DFW or DAL, rideshare the short 15-20 minute hop to Addison, pick up the van, and start the Texas itinerary from there. For groups staying at a North Dallas, Frisco, or Plano hotel, Addison is effectively walking-distance to a rideshare. Tell us your arrival airport at booking and we will coordinate with the Dallas partner on a clean pickup window.

TX Airport Access

Texas airport access from your Sprinter rental

Our Addison facility sits inside the Dallas-Fort Worth airport cluster — DFW International and Dallas Love Field are both under 20 minutes from pickup. Addison Airport (ADS) is a private-jet hub two minutes from the facility. For cross-state runs, AUS, IAH/HOU, and SAT are all reachable as day-or-weekend drives.

According to DFW International Airport, DFW served approximately 81 million passengers in 2024 — one of the largest airports in the world by total passenger volume and the primary fly-in for any Dallas-bound Sprinter itinerary. Dallas Love Field adds another 16+ million, concentrated in Southwest Airlines short-haul service.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, I-35 between Dallas and Austin is one of the busiest interstate corridors in Texas — budget 45-60 minutes of buffer on any Dallas-to-Austin return on SXSW, ACL, or F1 Austin weekends.

The Federal Aviation Administration classifies DFW, IAH, and AUS as large-hub airports — so fly-in connections from almost any U.S. city into any of the three are straightforward, and our partner can coordinate pickups from either DFW or DAL equally well.

Texas Use Cases

What Texas groups use Sprinter rentals for

The self-drive market for Texas skews heavily toward multi-day group outings that would otherwise require three separate vehicles. Here is what we expect to see booked out of the Addison partner fleet once it launches in May 2026.

Cowboys home-game weekends (AT&T Stadium)

Arlington is 30 miles from Addison. One Executive Sprinter consolidates the tailgate group, parks in the AT&T lot, and avoids surge rideshare pricing on the I-635 run back. Thursday-night games and divisional matchups book earliest.

Rangers, Mavericks, Stars game nights

Globe Life Field in Arlington (Rangers), American Airlines Center downtown (Mavericks/Stars). Short 15-30 mile runs from Addison. Sprinter handles a 10-12 person corporate group cleanly to the parking deck.

Austin bachelor / bachelorette weekends

Rainey Street, 6th Street, Lake Travis party-barge groups. 3-hour I-35 run from Addison. Jet Sprinter with bar build handles a 10-person weekend — drive down Friday, run the bachelor/ette Saturday, drive back Sunday.

F1 Austin / SXSW / ACL

F1 US Grand Prix (late October), SXSW (mid-March), ACL Festival (two weekends in early October). All three clear Austin hotel inventory and spike rideshare prices. Sprinter self-drive is the reliable move for a 8-12 person group.

Hill Country wine tours

Fredericksburg, Stonewall, Driftwood. 4-hour Camper Sprinter run from Addison down US-281. Winery loop plus overnight camping at a state park or a vineyard cabin. Best in March-May (wildflower season) and October.

UT Austin, TCU, SMU parent and move-in weekends

UT Austin family weekend (October) and move-in (August), TCU move-in and parent weekend, SMU graduation and family weekend. Executive Sprinter fits the extended family plus dorm furniture in one vehicle.

Houston Astros and Texans game weekends

3.75-hour I-45 run to Houston. Sprinter handles an Astros weekend series or a Texans divisional game for a group of 10-12. Come back Sunday night, one van, no surge.

Fort Worth Stockyards weekends

Western dance halls, rodeo, and Stockyards cattle drive. 35 miles from Addison on I-635 W + I-820. Executive Sprinter fits a bachelor/ette group or an out-of-town friend crew for a two-night Cowtown trip.

Timing

When to book a Texas Sprinter van rental

Demand for Texas trips concentrates around Cowboys home games, Austin festival weekends, and Hill Country peak seasons. 13 vans is a tight fleet — the partner operator's full roster — so booking windows matter. Use this as a guide.

  • Launch window (May 2026): book now. Reservations for the first 30 days of the partnership going live are open and will be confirmed as soon as the operational handoff completes.
  • Cowboys home-game Sundays (September through January): book 6-10 weeks ahead. Thursday-night games and divisional matchups (Eagles / Commanders / Giants) sell earliest.
  • F1 Austin Grand Prix (late October): book 10-14 weeks ahead. Single highest-demand Austin weekend of the year.
  • SXSW (mid-March): book 10-14 weeks ahead. Executive and Jet Sprinters clear the Dallas-Austin corridor.
  • ACL Festival (two weekends in early October): book 8-12 weeks ahead.
  • UT Austin / TCU / SMU move-in and parent weekends: book 6-10 weeks ahead. August move-in and October family weekends are the tightest Dallas-Austin fleet weekends.
  • Hill Country wildflower season (mid-March through mid-April): book 4-6 weeks ahead. Camper Sprinters go first.
  • Weekday, off-season corporate offsite in DFW: 24-72 hours is usually enough notice. Tuesday-Thursday pickups rarely sell out.

Not sure whether your dates fit the partnership launch window? Call (732) 589-1083 and we will flag it honestly — if the Dallas partner has the van and the dates, we will lock them, and if a specific weekend is already committed, we will tell you that too.

Frequently asked

Texas Sprinter rental FAQs

When does the Dallas / Texas Sprinter rental fleet launch?

The Checkmate Sprinters Dallas fleet is launching in Addison, Texas in May 2026 through a dedicated partnership with a local operator who owns 13 Mercedes-Benz Sprinters. You can reserve your dates now and we will confirm availability as soon as the partnership goes live. Pickup will be in Addison, Texas — a North Dallas suburb approximately 15 miles from downtown Dallas and 15 miles from DFW International Airport. The exact pickup address will be shared with confirmed reservations.

How much does it cost to rent a Sprinter van in Texas?

Self-drive Sprinter van rental in Texas starts at $450/day for an Executive Sprinter on a 3-day minimum booking, or $500/day on a 1-2 day rental. Jet Sprinters $500/day (3-day min) or $650/day (1-2 days). Camper Sprinters $450/day (3-day min) or $500/day (1-2 days). No hourly rates, no surge, no surprise cleaning fees beyond the policy on your rental agreement. Same Mercedes-Benz Sprinter build quality across every tier, operated through our Dallas partner out of Addison, Texas.

Where exactly is the Dallas Sprinter rental pickup?

Pickup is in Addison, Texas — a North Dallas suburb in Dallas County. The facility is roughly 15 miles (25 minutes off-peak) from downtown Dallas, 12 miles from Dallas Love Field (DAL), 15 miles from DFW International Airport, and 30 miles from AT&T Stadium in Arlington. It sits just off the Dallas North Tollway and easily connects to I-635, Route 75 (Central Expressway), and the PGBT for Fort Worth runs. The exact pickup address is shared with confirmed reservations.

Is the Dallas fleet operated by Checkmate directly or a partner?

The Dallas / Texas service is operated through a dedicated partnership with a local Addison, TX operator who owns 13 Mercedes-Benz Sprinters across Executive, Jet, and Camper tiers. Checkmate Sprinters handles the booking experience, the rate card, and the customer support — our Dallas partner handles the vans at pickup, maintenance, and day-of operations. This is how we expanded the self-drive Sprinter rental footprint to Texas without shipping vans from New Jersey. You will pick up from the Addison, TX address and the vans are titled and maintained by the partner operator.

How old do I have to be to rent a Sprinter van for a Texas trip?

Drivers must be 25 or older with a valid driver's license held for at least 2 years. A standard Class C license from Texas — or any equivalent U.S. state license — is accepted; no CDL or passenger endorsement is required for self-drive rentals under 16 passengers per the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles rules. You'll also provide a personal credit card for the security deposit and either proof of auto insurance or purchase rental insurance at checkout. Same driver rules as our NJ fleet — the rate card and policies are consistent across both pickup points.

Can I take a Dallas Sprinter rental to Austin, Houston, or San Antonio?

Yes. From Addison, TX: Austin is about 195 miles (3 hr) via I-35E S + I-35 S; Houston is about 240 miles (3.75 hr) via I-45 S; San Antonio is about 275 miles (4 hr) via I-35E S + I-35 S. All three are easy day-or-weekend runs from Dallas. Waco, OKC, and Hill Country wine country (Fredericksburg / Stonewall) are also in range. Tell us the full Texas itinerary at booking — we will size the mileage allowance correctly so you are not paying overage fees on a legitimate Dallas-to-Austin or Dallas-to-Houston run.

Is insurance included in a Texas Sprinter rental?

Insurance is not automatically included. You can provide proof of personal auto insurance that extends to rentals, rely on eligible credit card rental coverage (confirm with your card issuer before travel), or purchase rental insurance at checkout. We require proof of coverage before keys are released, and a credit card security deposit is held for the duration of the rental. Texas uninsured-motorist rates are statistically higher than the national average, so most Texas-pickup renters add the rental insurance for the extra buffer.

How many miles per day are included in a Dallas Sprinter rental?

Daily mileage allowances are set at booking and are ample for typical Dallas / DFW itineraries — AT&T Stadium game days, Fort Worth Stockyards weekends, The Star in Frisco, Plano / Legacy West corporate runs, and Dallas Arboretum / Bishop Arts trips all fit inside the included miles. For Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Waco, or Hill Country runs, tell us the route in advance and we will quote either an unlimited-mileage add-on or an expanded mileage cap. Overage miles are billed at a per-mile rate disclosed on the rental agreement.
