Florida Sprinter van rental rates — self-drive

Daily rates only. The 3-day minimum tier is the one most customers book. Same rates apply whether pickup is Middlesex NJ or winter direct Daytona / Miami.

Self-drive Sprinter van rental for a Florida trip starts at $275/day for an Executive Sprinter on a 3-day minimum booking, or $500/day on a 1-2 day rental. No hourly rates, no surge, no surprise cleaning fees beyond the policy on your rental agreement. Every van in the fleet is a 2022-2026 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter picked up either from our Middlesex, NJ facility (year-round, drive-down) or directly in Daytona Beach or Miami (Camper tier only, December through March).

We publish two rate tables because the math changes at the 3-day mark. Most Florida trips — Disney/Universal family weeks, snowbird relocations, Daytona 500 weeks, Miami Art Basel and F1 Miami weekends, Keys road trips — land well inside the 3-day-minimum tier, which is our best rate and what you should budget against.

Winter Only — December through March

Camper Sprinter direct pickup in Daytona Beach & Miami

Every year from December through March, a limited number of Camper Sprinters in our fleet relocate to Florida and winter-base out of Daytona Beach and Miami. This is the one path that skips the 1,000+ mile NJ drive-down entirely — fly into MCO, MIA, DAB, or FLL, and pick the Camper Sprinter up at the winter-base location the same day. Same daily rates as the NJ-pickup Camper rentals ($425-$800/day on 3+ day rentals, $500-$1,000/day on 1-2 day rentals). Limited inventory. Inventory is quoted on a per-request basis — call to confirm availability for your specific dates.

The winter Camper program is built for four use cases: (1) snowbird relocations — pick up the van near the Florida arrival point and use it for intra-Florida moves between seasonal addresses; (2) Florida Keys road trips — Miami is the gateway to the Overseas Highway and most Keys itineraries start and end there; (3) Daytona 500 and Bike Week — Daytona Beach is a direct pickup only minutes from the Speedway and Main Street; and (4) Miami Art Basel / F1 Miami Grand Prix — peak South Florida weekend events where a Camper Sprinter doubles as a lounge, base camp, and transport for a 4-6 person group.

Daytona Beach winter base

December through March

Camper Sprinter available for direct pickup minutes from Daytona International Speedway, the Boardwalk, and Main Street. Built for Daytona 500 week (February), Bike Week (early March), and snowbird winter road trips up and down A1A.

Nearest airports: Daytona Beach International (DAB, ~10 min), Orlando MCO (~75 min), Jacksonville JAX (~90 min).

Miami winter base

December through March

Camper Sprinter available for direct pickup in the Miami metro area. Built for Florida Keys road trips (Miami-to-Key West via the Overseas Highway), Miami Art Basel (early December), F1 Miami Grand Prix (early May — end of winter-base season), and snowbird Gold Coast itineraries.

Nearest airports: Miami MIA (~15-30 min), Fort Lauderdale FLL (~30-45 min).

Winter Camper inventory is limited and books earliest for Daytona 500 week (late January through mid-February), Bike Week (first week of March), Miami Art Basel (first week of December), and Key West holiday weeks. Call (732) 589-1083 well ahead of peak dates to lock winter Camper availability.

Self-Drive Comparison

Self-drive Sprinter vs fly-and-rent, Turo, Outdoorsy, and RVShare for FL

Self-drive Sprinter rental is a different market from chauffeured group transportation — the right competitive set is Turo and Outdoorsy owner-listed Sprinters, RVShare, national chains like Enterprise Exotics or Budget, and for Florida specifically, flying in and renting a local car. Uber XL, party buses, and traditional limos are not comparable because none of them are self-drive. Here is the honest side-by-side for a Florida-bound rental.

Per-passenger math — 12-pax FL family week

  • Checkmate self-drive (7-day Executive): $275-$800/day × 7 days = $1,925-$5,600 total / $23-$67 per passenger per day (no airfare, one van, full gear capacity)
  • 12× round-trip flights to MCO at ~$300/person = $3,600 + local rental SUV+minivan combo at ~$120/day × 7 = $840, plus MCO parking, surge rideshares, and 3 separate vehicles — $4,440+ in transport alone, group split across multiple cars
  • 3× Turo Sprinter listings at ~$250/day × 7 days = $5,250 / group still split, variable vehicle quality
  • Outdoorsy Sprinter at ~$300/day × 7 days = $2,100 + owner-set mileage + cleaning — single van but typically 2-4 berth, not a 12-passenger people-mover
  • Winter Camper direct pickup (4-pax, 7 days): $425-$800/day × 7 = $2,975-$5,600 + $300-$600/person airfare to MIA or DAB — cheapest path for a 2-4 person Keys road trip since no NJ drive-down

The honest read: for a 12-person family or wedding-party week, Checkmate self-drive is the right answer. For 2-4 people doing 4-5 days, fly-and-rent-local is cheaper unless you specifically want a Camper Sprinter — in which case the winter direct pickup (Dec-Mar) in Daytona or Miami is the cleanest option.

Middlesex NJ Pickup

Picking up your Sprinter and driving down to Florida

Standard year-round pickup is at 646 Lincoln Blvd, Middlesex, NJ 08846, our owned facility in Central Jersey. At pickup we run a full walkthrough of the van — controls, amenities, damage inspection, WiFi and entertainment systems — hand you the keys and a fuel receipt, and confirm the agreed-on return time and Florida-trip mileage allowance. Budget 30-40 minutes for pickup on a Florida-bound rental since we review the route, toll transponder, and roadside-assistance plan in detail.

The facility sits off US-22 and I-287 with direct access to the NJ Turnpike at Exit 10, then I-95 S + I-295 S via the Delaware Memorial Bridge to I-95 S through Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, and into Florida via I-95 S or I-75 S. Middlesex to Jacksonville is ~890 miles (roughly 13 hours of driving), so most groups plan one overnight stop — Raleigh, Florence SC, or Savannah GA are the common halfway points.

Common overnight-stop strategies: Middlesex → Raleigh, NC (~8 hr) → Daytona/Orlando (~6-7 hr). Or Middlesex → Florence, SC (~9 hr) → Miami (~9 hr). Savannah, GA is a popular break point for groups heading to Tampa, Naples, or the Gulf Coast. Tell us the planned overnight at booking so we can size the mileage allowance correctly.

For FL-bound groups flying in and starting from NJ: fly into Newark Liberty International (EWR), rideshare the short hop to Middlesex, start the rental from there the next morning, and break the drive into two days.

FL Airport Context

Florida airports for fly-in and winter-Camper pickup

On a standard Middlesex-pickup Florida rental you are driving, not flying — the airport table below is (a) destination context if part of your group flies in while the van drives down, and (b) fly-in reference for winter Camper Sprinter direct pickup in Daytona Beach or Miami. Florida has seven major commercial airports and a handful of smaller regionals that matter for snowbird / Keys / Gulf Coast trips.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Florida is one of the most-driven states in the country with over 22 million licensed drivers, and the state maintains the 2,883-mile Florida Turnpike + interstate network as the primary North-South corridor. Budget extra fuel stops south of Orlando where I-95 S gets dense, and plan the Florida Turnpike route for Miami approaches — I-95 S through Broward can add 45+ minutes in peak hours.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Miami International and Orlando International are both in the top 10 U.S. airports by passenger volume — peak-season arrivals during Spring Break, Christmas, and Miami Art Basel weekends coincide with the heaviest I-95 S and Florida Turnpike traffic, so add 60-90 minutes of buffer on any fly-in + winter-Camper-pickup day.

The Florida Department of Transportation publishes live traffic conditions on I-95, I-75, and the Florida Turnpike — we recommend checking FDOT's corridor status the morning of any intra-Florida drive in peak season.

The Fleet

The Florida Sprinter rental fleet — 20 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans

Every van in the Checkmate Sprinters fleet is a 2022-2026 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter that we professionally maintain and detail in-house. That matters on a long Florida drive-down because you are not inheriting somebody else's cleaning habits or maintenance schedule — every Sprinter leaves the Middlesex facility pre-inspected for tires, fluids, HVAC, and the 2,500+ round-trip mile load of a Florida itinerary. The fleet splits cleanly into three tiers.

Executive Sprinter

From $275/day (3-day min) / $500/day (1-2 days)

9-15 passengers

Best for Disney / Universal Orlando family weeks, multi-family Gulf Coast vacation weeks, UF / FSU / UM parent weekends, and Miami-area wedding-party weeks.

Jet Sprinter

From $450/day (3-day min) / $650/day (1-2 days)

up to 10 passengers

Smart TVs, gaming consoles, and massage seats. Best for Miami Art Basel / F1 Miami GP weekends, South Beach bachelor/bachelorette weekends, and luxury Keys road trips.

  • Darth — PS5 + Xbox, 3 Smart TVs
  • Olaf — 4 massage seats, 2 TVs
  • Boo / Brucey — custom interior

Camper / Adventure Sprinter

From $425/day (3-day min) / $500/day (1-2 days)

2-3 sleep configuration

Winter Dec-Mar: direct pickup available in Daytona Beach & Miami

Built for Florida Keys road trips, snowbird seasonal relocations, Gulf Coast beach weeks, and Daytona 500 / Bike Week camping runs.

Florida Use Cases

What Florida groups use Sprinter rentals for

The self-drive market for Florida trips skews heavily toward multi-week group itineraries that would otherwise require three separate rental cars plus airfare for 10+ passengers. Here is what we actually see booked.

Disney & Universal Orlando family weeks

Multi-family groups (8-12 passengers) doing a 7-10 day Orlando park week. Executive Sprinter fits the whole extended family, strollers, and park gear in one van — beats three SUV rentals plus paying Disney parking at three cars. Friday pickup from Middlesex, overnight in Raleigh or Florence, arrive Saturday.

Florida Keys road trips

Miami to Key West via the Overseas Highway — 168 miles of bridge-hopping through Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, and Big Pine. Camper Sprinter (especially winter direct-pickup out of Miami) is the purpose-built vehicle for this trip. Sleep in the van at state parks and keyside RV resorts, skip the $400+/night Keys hotels.

Daytona 500 week & Bike Week

Late-February race week and early-March Bike Week turn Daytona Beach into one of the busiest weeks in Florida. Winter Camper Sprinter direct pickup out of Daytona is the play — park at the Speedway, avoid hotel surge pricing, and be minutes from Main Street.

Miami Art Basel & F1 Miami Grand Prix

Early-December Art Basel and early-May F1 Miami are the two peak South Florida weekends. Jet Sprinter with bar build handles the collector / hospitality group, and winter-Camper direct pickup (Basel is still in-season) makes MIA fly-in a one-step move to the weekend.

Snowbird seasonal relocations

Retired couples and seasonal residents moving household goods and a dog or two down to Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, or West Palm for the winter. Executive Sprinter fits a full car's worth of boxes and suitcases with captain chairs — and returns empty on the way back up.

Gulf Coast beach weeks (Naples, Sanibel, 30A)

Multi-family beach weeks at Gulf Coast VRBOs. Executive Sprinter arrives with paddleboards, coolers, beach carts, and kids' bikes in one trip — no roof box required. I-75 S via Alligator Alley is the Naples approach; I-10 W to Destin is the 30A route.

UF / FSU / UM parent & graduation weekends

Gainesville, Tallahassee, and Coral Gables parent and graduation weekends. Executive Sprinter fits the whole extended family plus graduation gifts, luggage, and dorm gear — one van, no multi-car parking at a Gainesville hotel.

Spring Break multi-family trips

Mid-March through early April. Multiple NJ/NY families coordinating a Spring Break week in Naples, Destin, or West Palm. One Executive Sprinter is the coordination tool — one van, one itinerary, one mileage log.

Timing

When to book a Florida Sprinter van rental

Demand for Florida trips swings hard by season. Twenty vans is a large self-drive Sprinter fleet by any measure, but winter months (December through March), Spring Break weeks, and Daytona 500 / Bike Week routinely sell the fleet out. Use this as a booking guide.

  • Winter Camper direct pickup (December through March): book 8-14 weeks ahead. Limited FL-based Camper inventory — Daytona 500 week, Bike Week, Miami Art Basel, and Christmas/New Year Keys weeks sell out first.
  • Disney / Universal family weeks (any peak school break, especially Christmas / Spring Break / summer): book 10-16 weeks ahead. Christmas and Spring Break are the two tightest Florida windows every year.
  • Spring Break (mid-March through early April): book 8-12 weeks ahead. Fleet clears fastest for Gulf Coast and Florida Keys itineraries.
  • Daytona 500 week / Bike Week (late Feb / early Mar): book 10-14 weeks ahead for winter Camper Daytona direct pickup.
  • Miami Art Basel (first week of December): book 10-14 weeks ahead. Jet Sprinter and winter Camper both see peak demand.
  • F1 Miami Grand Prix (early May): book 10-14 weeks ahead. End of winter-Camper season, overlap with Mother's Day weekend.
  • UF / FSU / UM parent & graduation weekends(April-May graduation, October parent weekends): book 8-12 weeks ahead.
  • Summer Florida trips (June-August): book 4-8 weeks ahead. Lower peak than winter but still strong demand for Orlando, Gulf Coast, and Keys.

Not sure whether your dates are peak or off-peak? Call (732) 589-1083 and we will flag it honestly — if our fleet is wide open, we will say so, and if you need to move the trip by a week to land better availability, we will tell you that too.

Booking

How to rent a Florida Sprinter van

  1. Visit checkmatesprinters.com or call (732) 589-1083.

Frequently asked

Florida Sprinter rental FAQs

How much does it cost to rent a Sprinter van for a Florida trip?

Self-drive Sprinter van rental for a Florida trip starts at $275/day for an Executive Sprinter on a 3-day minimum booking, or $500/day on a 1-2 day rental. Jet Sprinters run $450-$1,000/day on 3+ day rentals ($650-$1,000/day on 1-2 day rentals), and Camper Sprinters run $425-$800/day on 3+ day rentals ($500-$1,000/day on 1-2 day rentals). Standard pickup is 646 Lincoln Blvd, Middlesex, NJ, with a drive down to Florida; from December through March, select Camper Sprinters are also available for direct pickup in Daytona Beach and Miami.

Where do I pick up my Florida Sprinter van rental?

There are two pickup paths. Standard year-round pickup is 646 Lincoln Blvd, Middlesex, NJ 08846 — our owned facility, 35 miles from Midtown Manhattan and the starting point for drive-down trips to Florida. From December through March, a limited number of Camper Sprinters winter-base in Daytona Beach and Miami and are available for direct Florida pickup — ideal for snowbirds, Florida Keys road trips, and Camper adventures that do not need the whole NJ-to-FL drive.

Is it actually worth driving a Sprinter 1,275 miles from New Jersey to Miami?

For a multi-week group trip with 8+ passengers, yes — one Executive Sprinter at $275-$800/day beats the cost and coordination of 8+ flights plus a local FL rental, and you arrive with luggage, gear, and the whole party in one vehicle. For a 4-5 day trip with 2-4 people, flying in and renting locally is usually cheaper. We are honest about that. Sprinters win on Florida trips when the group is large (8+), the stay is long (10+ days), or the itinerary needs gear the van can carry (kids, pets, beach gear, surfboards, camping kit).

Can I pick up a Camper Sprinter directly in Daytona Beach or Miami?

Yes, from December through March only. Select Camper Sprinters in our fleet winter-base in Daytona Beach and Miami and are available for direct Florida pickup during those months, with the same daily rates as the NJ-pickup rentals ($425-$800/day on 3+ day rentals). Inventory is limited and weekend windows around Daytona 500, Bike Week, Spring Break, and Miami Art Basel book earliest. Call (732) 589-1083 to check winter Camper availability for your specific dates.

How old do I have to be to rent a Sprinter for a Florida trip?

Drivers must be 25 or older with a valid driver's license held for at least 2 years. A standard Class E license from Florida — or any equivalent U.S. state license — is accepted; no CDL or passenger endorsement is required for self-drive rentals under 16 passengers per the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles rules. You'll also provide a personal credit card for the security deposit and either proof of auto insurance or purchase rental insurance at checkout.

How many miles per day are included for a Florida drive-down?

Long-distance Florida rentals are quoted with an expanded mileage allowance because round-trip NJ-to-Miami is roughly 2,550 miles and NJ-to-Key West is ~2,900 miles. Tell us the route at booking — we will price the rental with unlimited-mileage or a high-cap mileage allowance appropriate to your itinerary, so you are not paying overage fees on a legitimate Florida trip. Day-to-day Florida driving once you arrive (beach runs, Disney park hopping, Keys loops) fits well inside the bundled daily miles.

Is insurance included in a Checkmate Sprinter rental for Florida?

Insurance is not automatically included. You can provide proof of personal auto insurance that extends to rentals, rely on eligible credit card rental coverage (confirm with your card issuer before travel), or purchase rental insurance at checkout. We require proof of coverage before keys are released, and a credit card security deposit is held for the duration of the rental. For long Florida drive-downs and winter Camper pickups in Daytona or Miami, most customers add the rental insurance for the hurricane-season buffer.

Is a Sprinter worth it for a Disney or Universal Orlando family week?

For a multi-family group (8-12 people) spending a full week, yes. Executive Sprinter at $275-$800/day beats three separate rental SUVs plus Disney parking for all three, and keeps the whole group on one schedule for park days, dinner reservations, and airport runs. Orlando is ~1,050 miles from Middlesex (two-day drive with one overnight stop), so most families do a Friday pickup, overnight halfway, arrive Saturday at the Disney resort, and run the van as a 12-person people-mover for the week. For a 2-3 person trip, fly into MCO and rent locally instead.
